Fuel Cost Calculator

Fuel a trip burns and what it costs — round trip and per-person split included.

Show formula
metric: fuel = distance × (L/100 km) ÷ 100 · imperial: fuel = distance ÷ mpg · cost = fuel × pump price

Inputs

Liters the car burns per 100 km — the figure on the window sticker or in the spec sheet.

—

Divides the total evenly across everyone in the car, driver included.

Enter Distance and the result fills in as you type.

How it works

  1. Pick the scale you think in — kilometers with liters per 100 km, or miles with miles per gallon.
  2. Enter the trip distance, the car’s consumption and the pump price.
  3. Toggle round trip to charge the drive back as well, and optionally split the total across everyone in the car.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out the fuel cost of a trip?

Multiply the distance by the car’s consumption per 100 km to get the liters, then multiply the liters by the pump price. In mpg countries, divide the miles by the mpg rating to get gallons instead — the calculator does either scale.

Which consumption figure should I use?

A realistic one. The window-sticker rating is measured on a rolling road and usually flatters mixed driving, so a car rated at 6 L/100 km often really burns 7 once you add town traffic, cold starts and a loaded boot. Using your own measured average makes the cost match the pump.

What is included in the per-person split?

Only the fuel bill, divided evenly across everyone in the car, driver included. Tolls, parking and vehicle wear are separate costs — a split that quietly mixed them in would stop matching the fuel receipt.

Examples

A 620 km drive at 7.5 L/100 km with petrol at 1.60 per liter
The trip burns 46.5 L — 74.40 at the pump, which is 0.12 per kilometer.
300 miles at 30 mpg with gas at 3.50 per gallon
10 gallons — 35.00, about 0.117 per mile.
