How it works

  1. Pick the currency you are converting from and the one you want.
  2. Type an amount — the conversion updates as you type.
  3. Check the freshness line under the result: rates are checked against a free hourly reference feed, with daily references as fallbacks.

Frequently asked questions

How current are the rates?

The primary public feed updates hourly and the browser re-checks it on a short cache window. The result shows when the data was updated and whether a daily fallback was needed. It is an indicative reference rate, not tick-by-tick trading data.

Why does my bank give a different number?

A bank or card network adds a spread and often a fee on top of the mid-market rate shown here. Treat this as the reference rate, not the price you will be charged.

What happens if the rate sources are unreachable?

It works down a chain of six endpoints drawn from four independent providers, starting with the free hourly feed and then daily references. If every endpoint fails, a previously validated browser cache may be shown as stale; otherwise the converter says rates are unavailable and offers a retry rather than inventing a number.

How are pairs that share no base handled?

Every rate in a snapshot is quoted against one base currency, so any other pair is cross-rated by dividing the two: amount × (rate_to ÷ rate_from).

Examples

What is 100 USD in EUR if the rate is 0.92?
92.00 EUR. The tool applies whatever rate the current snapshot carries; 0.92 here is only to show the arithmetic.
How do I convert between two non-USD currencies?
Pick them directly. The tool cross-rates through the snapshot base for you, so GBP → JPY needs no intermediate step.
