How it works

  1. Choose the date you have: the first day of your last period, a known conception date, an IVF embryo transfer or an ultrasound scan.
  2. Add what that method needs: your usual cycle length, the embryo’s age at transfer (day 3 or day 5), or the gestational age the scan reported.
  3. Read the estimated due date, the week you are in today, the days to go and the dates of the milestones ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Which dating method is the most accurate?

An IVF transfer date, because the embryo’s age is known exactly. Otherwise an ultrasound in the first trimester: the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) treats a measurement up to 13 weeks 6 days as the most accurate way to set or confirm the due date, and clinicians change a date based on the last period when the two disagree by more than a set margin.

Why are pregnancy weeks counted from the last period, not from conception?

Because the first day of the last period is a date most people know, while the day of conception usually is not. Week 0 therefore starts about two weeks before conception, and a pregnancy conceived on 15 March is already two weeks along that day. The conception, IVF and ultrasound methods are converted to the same clock, which is why the page shows the last-period date each due date implies.

How is an IVF due date calculated?

From the transfer date and the embryo’s age. A day-5 blastocyst is treated as a pregnancy of 2 weeks and 5 days on the day of transfer, so the due date is 261 days later; a day-3 embryo gives 263 days. These are the offsets ACOG gives, and a frozen embryo transfer is dated the same way, from the day of the transfer.

How many babies are born on their due date?

Only around 4%. A due date is the middle of a normal range rather than an appointment: a birth from 37 weeks on counts as term, and most babies arrive within two weeks either side of the date. The milestones table shows when each stretch begins.

What do early term, full term and late term mean?

They are ACOG’s labels for births in the term window: early term from 37 weeks 0 days to 38 weeks 6 days, full term from 39+0 to 40+6, late term from 41+0 to 41+6, and post-term from 42 weeks on. A baby born before 37 weeks is preterm.

Examples

Last period started on 1 March 2026, 28-day cycle
Due date 6 December 2026. The pregnancy reaches full term, 39 weeks, on 29 November 2026, and late term begins on 13 December.
A day-5 embryo transferred on 4 May 2026
Due date 20 January 2027, 261 days after the transfer. The pregnancy is dated as if the last period had begun on 15 April 2026.
An ultrasound on 10 June 2026 measured 8 weeks and 3 days
Due date 17 January 2027: 280 − 59 = 221 days after the scan. Week 0 falls on 12 April 2026.

Due Date vs Pregnancy Calculator

Both give a due date. This page dates a pregnancy from whichever date you have; the Pregnancy Calculator follows it week by week from a last period.

  • Pregnancy Calculator — You know the first day of your last period and want the current week and trimester at a glance.
  • Ovulation Calculator — You are trying to conceive and want the fertile window and likely ovulation day of a cycle.
